Malala in 2017Malala Yousafzai (born 1997) is a young Pakistani woman who, from an early age, spoke out against the Taliban. This organization tried to stop girls being educated in her homeland. Malala survived an assassination attempt at the age of 15. Since then, she has received many prizes for her work standing up for the rights of girls and women all over the world.
Malala Youafzai was born on 12th July 1997 in Mingora, the largest city in the Swat Valley of Pakistan. In the early 21st century, the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), an extremist Islamic group allied to the Taliban in neighbouring Afghanistan, moved into the area.
Malala Yousafzai is the youngest-ever person to receive a Nobel Prize.
