Acid   A substance that contains a positively charged hydrogen atom (ion). An acid will always give up its hydrogen ion in order to rid itself of its positive charge and become neutral. Alternatively, it can accept an electron, which is negative, to achieve the same result. This means that acids readily react with other substances.
